In the tens of thousands of Google searches that take place every second, people want to know about recipes, beer, and cocktails first—and then diets, exercise, and calories. That’s according to Google’s annual report, which details the most popular categories and queries of the year.
I wrote about some of the overarching findings here, but the more granular stuff related to wellness is pretty fascinating, too.
The top calorie-related searches, for example, are for foods that are mostly horrible for you. Kale and beets, this stuff is not. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll stick with tracking just fat and calories, with information provided by the food manufacturer unless otherwise noted. Here’s the breakdown of the top 10 most-searched food items among caloric queries this year:
1. Toasted Graham Latte
A large one—or Venti, in Starbucks-speak—will run you 380 calories and 12 grams of fat if you opt for 2 percent milk.
2. Palm Breeze
This sparkling alcohol-infused spritzer, sort of a Mike’s Hard Lemonade reboot, has 222 calories, according to My Fitness Pal.
3. Starbucks Flat White
There are 240 calories and nine grams of fat in a large one with 2 percent milk.
4. Grilled Stuft Nachos
A serving of these mega-salty pocket-nachos contains 570 calories and 23 grams of fat.
5. Little Caesars Bacon-Wrapped Deep Dish
One slice (one slice!) has 450 calories and 23 grams of fat, according to the website Fast Food Nutrition. (Compare that with a typical slice of plain cheese pizza, which has about 275 calories and 10 grams of fat.)
6. Digiorno Pizza
Digiorno markets its small pizzas as “personal pizza” and “for one,” but a single serving size is half the pie. If you opt for pepperoni and eat the whole thing, you’ll consume 760 calories and 36 grams of fat.
7. Cheeseburger
Since the brand isn’t specified here, I’ll use McDonald’s as an example. A classic cheeseburger has 300 calories and 12 grams of fat. Compare that with, say, a Quarter Pounder with cheese, which packs 540 calories and 28 grams of fat.
8. Starbucks Birthday Cake Frappuccino
This limited-edition drink isn’t on the regular menu, which means it isn’t included in Starbucks’s nutritional information, but we can glean something from its ingredients. It apparently contained vanilla, hazelnut, and raspberry flavors, which typically contain about 80 calories per ounce, along with a bunch of whipped cream—one cup of which has about 150 calories and 13 grams of fat.
9. Coney Island Root Beer
A bottle of this boozy root beer contains 180 calories, somewhere between your typical lager (about 150 calories) and hoppier IPAs (about 230 calories).
10. Hollandaise Sauce
Main ingredients: egg yolks and butter. Three tablespoons of hollandaise, which is probably slightly less than the amount you’d expect glooping down a brunch order of eggs benedict, has 200 calories and 22 grams of fat.
