For anyone who has not seen this, a truly beautiful extended-play video of the space shuttle Endeavour's final flyover across Southern California last month. It was shot, with impressively smooth camera control, from one of the accompanying fighter planes. To me it's fascinating to hear the chatter between the two-person male-and-female crew in the plane doing the filming, plus the pilot of the 747 shuttle carrier and air traffic control.
This video also conveys unusually well the feeling of 3D-swimming-through-air that I find so reliably exhilarating about flight. More information, and original source of the video from this NASA site. Thanks to reader WRM of Louisiana for the tip.
I don't always say, "Newt Gingrich is right!" But I'll say it whenever he talks up the importance of a revived space program.
