You may have seen filmmaker Sebastien Montaz-Rosset’s work before. His film, Flight of the Frenchies, introduced mainstream audiences to wingsuits, a type of parachute that fill the space between arms and legs. The now-famous technology doesn’t let wearers fly, exactly, as much as allow them to navigate the air gracefully before deploying a parachute.
The technology that went into the short film above accomplishes the same goal—though it’s a little older and a little more classically French. The first manned hot air balloon, after all, lifted off Parisian ground.
The video above, I should add, is also stunning. And crazy. And other adjectives. We seriously do hope those backpack-like things are parachutes.
