Ever wondered what the "Batman" theme song would sound like when performed by a collection of actual bats?
Neither had I. And only partially because bats' sounds, for worse but probably for better, operate at frequencies that are not audible to human ears. We cannot hear their bat signals.
Well, we couldn't hear them. Until a team of musicians, bat-lovers, and general geniuses figured out a crafty way to bring bat sounds to human ears: they took ultrasounds from bats in the wild and then digitally reduced the sounds to frequencies that are audible to humans. And then they the assigned the different bat sounds to particular keys on a piano-style keyboard.
And then they played the "Batman" theme on that keyboard. The song that resulted is a little bit MacGyver, a little bit nature, a little bit screechy, a little bit awesome. And it's bats all the way down.
